Hard Boiled, but not at all 'soft'

Bruce Cervon's HARD BOILED MYSTERIES, has attracted some mixed reviews from purchasers of this well-produced book from L & L Publishing.
Frankly, I think a fair portion of the material is a little disappointing, with too many overworked Ace routines and needlessly complicated tricks involving the Faro Shuffle. However, there are some very nice entries in the 'Interesting Effects' and 'Moves And Their Tricks' chapters. 'The Fifth Card' and' AC/DC' for example, are certainly noteworthy, along with another plum, 'Commercial Collectors' which I thought was excellent.
Could not help thinking HBM was assembled in a hurry, using left over material that Cervon had put aside. And it seems L & L could not decide whether Stephan Minch was the author or Editor; Inside front page and dust jacket carry two differing claims.
In in all, a worthwhile acquisition, but be prepared for some let downs, as mentioned.
